Alpaca and the Peeps

Since the Spectacular Softies Contest is still going on over at Sew Mama Sew, I thought I would max out my allowable 3 submissions with a mounted alpaca bust and a bunch of fleece Peeps.

I mean, who doesn't love Peeps? And with the awesome bunny and chick tutorials over at Dandelions and Lace it's hard not to want to make a whole gaggle of Peeps. A gander of Peeps? I'm not sure what this kind of grouping of cuteness should be called.

Sew Mama Sew Spectacular Softies Contest Submission

One of my favorite blogs, Sew Mama Sew, recently opened up their Spectacular Softies Contest where contestants create their own softie or plush toy and try to win a Pfaff Creative 3.0 sewing machine.

This seemed like a good opportunity to re-enter the craft blogging world since I've been away for quite a while.

At first I thought about doing something along the Star Wars line, but that seemed a little overplayed. So in the spirit of not being overplayed, I decided that I was going to try to recreate something from a classic 80's movie, "Stripes".

I assume I will probably be the only one trying to recreate the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle in all its softie glory.

Here was my inspiration.

Cupcake Motorcycle Helmet Bag

In preparation for this year's motorcycle riding season, I thought it might be nice to have something to carry my great big pink Nolan helmet around in when we go places. Taking a cue from the oh so subtle color scheme of the helmet, I thought that this pink polka dotted duck cloth with cupcakes all over it would be a perfect compliment to our usual unusual biker garb.

Scott Craft Show Results

This post goes out to those fairly new crafters who are just beginning to dip their toes in the waters of craft shows.

Scott AFB Spring Craft Fair

In an effort to keep what few fans I have informed, I thought I would let you guys know that I will be setting up a table at the Scott Air Force Base Spring Craft Fair tomorrow (Saturday, 9 March). The hours for the craft fair will be 10 AM until 4 PM.

So if you are able to get on base (you need to have a pass of some kind, either a permanent pass like an ID card or a temporary pass, perhaps from a military friend you may have) make sure to stop by Rockwell Hall and check out all the fabulously crafty things that the Scott AFB community is making and selling.

Zipper Repair Option

The other day, one of my coworkers reminded me that I hadn't posted on my blog for a while. So when I ran into issues with the zipper on a denim jacket that I'm currently making, I thought it was the perfect opportunity for a blog post. This one's for you Pat.

Bowling Bag Inspired Purse

In an effort to make yet another purse that I probably don't need but that I thought would be really cool to make, I decided to try my hand at making a bowling bag inspired purse.

I wanted it to be smaller than a real bowling bag, but I don't think I sized it down quite far enough. It's a nice size and much smaller than the original pattern that I tweaked it from, but if I decide to try to resuscitate it one day I'm going to size it down a few more inches. If I would have stayed with the original pattern size it would have looked more like luggage than a purse.

I chose to use some beautiful baby blue vinyl that has a leather feel to it for the upper portion of the purse and a cream colored vinyl for the lower part and the handles. The lining is a sort of grey high pile upholstery fabric that I got on sale.
